Welcome to SyncNest ("we," "us," or "our"). SyncNest is a real-time video watching platform that allows users to sync YouTube videos and watch together. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website at syncnest.tv and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address
• Username and display name
• Profile picture (if provided or imported from Google)
• Password (stored securely hashed; only for email/password accounts)

Google OAuth Data

If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google. If you sign in with Apple, we receive your name and email (you may choose to hide your email). If you optionally connect your YouTube account, we also access your YouTube subscription list to show personalized content. We do not access your private YouTube data beyond what you explicitly authorize.

Push Notifications

If you use the SyncNest iOS app, we collect your device push notification token to send you notifications (e.g., sync invites, when friends join your room). You can disable push notifications at any time in your device settings.

Usage Data

We automatically collect:

• Pages visited and features used
• Room activity (rooms created, videos watched, chat messages)
• Device type, browser, and operating system
• IP address and approximate location

We use collected information to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
• Create and manage your account
• Enable real-time video syncing and chat features
• Show personalized content (e.g., subscription-based video recommendations)
• Calculate XP, tiers, and other gamification features
• Communicate with you about updates or issues
• Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and violations of our Terms
• Analyze usage patterns to improve the platform

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in these cases:

• Public profile: Your username, display name, avatar, bio, and XP tier are publicly visible.
• Chat messages: Messages sent in rooms are visible to all room participants.
• Service providers: We use third-party services (Supabase for database/auth, Vercel for hosting, YouTube API for video data) that process data on our behalf.
• Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and safety.

SyncNest uses YouTube API Services. By using our Service, you are also agreeing to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy.

When you connect your YouTube account, we store an access token and refresh token to retrieve your subscription data. You can revoke this access at any time through your Google Account permissions.

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your data. Authentication is handled through Supabase with industry-standard encryption. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Chat messages and room data may be retained for a reasonable period after a room ends. You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Object to or restrict processing of your data
• Data portability

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We use Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights to understand how the Service is used. These tools collect anonymous usage data and do not track individual users across websites.

The Service is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
